Choosing the right floor for your home or workplace is an important decision, and the St Albans Flooring Co. would like you to be completely confident in the quality of product and service you will receive. On this page, you will find testimonials from customers who have been asked for their honest opinions on the work carried out.

"I should like customers of the St. Albans Flooring Co. to know how pleased we were with the work carried out by Dan Hodgson and his team on our Victorian house in North West London. The house is about 150 years old, and stands, as so many do in this area, on London clay, which is prone to shrinking. The ground floor had been laid with pine flooring, which had gradually deteriorated, sagging in the middle as the joists underneath had slowly subsided. If you placed a marble at the floor’s edge, it would roll down to the middle.

Dan and his assistant carpenter took up the old floor, revealing the extent of the damage, and then proceeded to fit new timber beams along the joists, at varying heights, in order to provide a level surface. They then laid a new solid oak floor (tongue-and-groove), with remarkable precision. Finally, they sanded the boards down and treated them with an oil and wax based sealant, which has given the floor a wonderfully deep and rich finish. (The great advantage of this kind of finish is that, unlike a hard lacquer, patches which become damaged by wear and tear are easily restored.)

Throughout the month’s work, Dan and his carpenter mate delivered work of a high professional quality. They solved a number of unexpected problems resourcefully, and were very co-operative in helping to move furniture, and piles of book boxes, so as to minimise the disturbance caused by such a massive job. I recommend them most warmly, and am only sorry that we don’t have another floor for them to renew."

"Having bought our "dream house" we were anxious that any work we had done would be to the highest (and affordable) standard. Dan was recommended by a fellow carpenter and once we had met him and accepted his estimate, he began work laying an oak floor. Paul is an architect and by nature a discerning client.

Dan kept to his schedule and completed on time and on budget

His work is faultless and we highly recommend him.

Not only is he a professional in everything he undertakes, but he is one of the most helpful and considerate contractors we have employed. He certainly "goes the extra mile", is tidy, conscientious and honest."

"I have known Daniel Hodgson for several years, in which he has carried out numerous flooring projects for myself and work colleagues at Skyline Interiors.

Daniel has worked on Skyline commercial interior and residential projects which have included laying carpet tiles, vinyl flooring & natural wood base and laminated flooring systems.

The last project Daniel completed for Skyline Interiors is the prestigious one bedroom flat at Howick Place, Victoria, London. The flooring was a high quality natural wood floor finish which had some very difficult setting out points. My client & I were very impressed with the floor finish, as the flat was being valued at £1.6million.

Daniel has been very reliable & competitive in the work place and I would not hesitate in recommending him to any future clients."

"It is never easy to have tradesmen in your home for two solid weeks, especially when they are tearing out all your existing flooring and replacing it. However, Dan and Sean made the process as smooth as it could possibly be and kept the disruption to a minimum. They worked in an organised way, with almost military precision. And they were always considerate and understanding when dealing with us.

More importantly, they did an excellent job.

They took a great deal of trouble getting the exact shade of stain we were looking for. They involved us at every stage in the process and their attention to detail was first class. It was a pleasure to deal with them because they took a real pride in their work.

At the end of the two weeks, we got exactly what we wanted: a floor that looks like it has been down for 50 years. If that is what you are looking for then I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Dan."
